2026 Hideout residencies now open for applications

We wrapped another lovely Hideout season in November, welcoming over a hundred residents and guests to The Hideout in 2025! Writers, dreamers, musicians, journalists, screenwriters, plein-air painters, sleepy yogis, therapists, multi-disclipinary artists and more.

This year was our busiest yet, as we opened The Cottage and The Tryon Suite to folks from eleven countries and all corners of Canada, including our 2025 writer-in-residence Christine Higdon and 2025 Susan Buchanan Hideout scholarship winner Brian Braganza. We're proud of the vibrant creative community we've nutured over the past eight years and are always stoked to celebrate the successes of recent Hideout alumni, like 2025 CBC Nonfiction Prize winner Laura MacGregor and 2025 Governor General's Award finalist Shane Neilson.

Our 2026 Hideout residency dates are now open and filling fast! As we have fewer residency spots available this year, we expect residency slots to fill up early. As in past year's, our Susan Buchanan Hideout scholarship is available to one writer/creative or therapist from the Maritime provinces. Application deadline is March 1.
